Operative using CoverSafe Spark insulated loft safety matting across exposed timber joists

This awareness course explains how CoverSafe Spark insulated loft safety matting is used as part of an approved safe system of work for roofing and loft activities.

It follows a controlled sequence from initial loft access, through progressive insulation removal and joist inspection, to completion and formal release of the protection arrangement required for the task, corresponding work, authorised withdrawal and final insulation installation. The protection extent is task-specific and may be localised, progressive, route-based or wider; full-perimeter protection is only used where the assessment and approved safe system specifically require it.

The course is intended for operatives entering the loft or using the mat arrangement, authorised deployers and removers, supervisors and others responsible for planning, checking or releasing the work.

By the end of the course, learners should be able to explain the purpose and limitations of the equipment, recall the fixed product limits, describe how the required protection extent is determined, state the formal release requirements and recognise when work must stop.

Important: successful completion records awareness theory only. Independent deployment, repositioning or removal requires witnessed practical assessment and employer authorisation.
