Close-coupled semi-trailers may not leave enough safe room to reach the service connections when the combination is straight. This course explains the controlled cranked method for suitable, risk-assessed combinations and sites.
Learners work through the firm-level-ground and segregation checks, positive use of tractor and trailer parking brakes, coupling height, fifth-wheel engagement, two controlled tug tests, visual lock and security-device checks, landing legs, controlled cranking, yellow and electrical connections before the red supply line, shunt-valve reset, uncoupling and final stability checks.
Course structure: seven substantive lessons followed by a separate course-level 12-question final assessment. The pass mark is 80% and retakes are unlimited after review.
