Workshop technician safely operating a guarded wheel balancing machine with a wheel securely clamped

A wheel balancer looks routine, but a poorly mounted wheel, damaged guard or loose weight can turn a simple job into a serious injury.

This straight-talking course shows workshop staff how to prepare the wheel and machine, mount and clamp the assembly correctly, run the balancing cycle from a safe position and stop when anything is wrong.

What you will learn

  • Recognise the main entanglement, impact, trapping and handling risks.
  • Carry out a practical pre-use check.
  • Clean and inspect the wheel before mounting it.
  • Select and fit the correct cone, adaptor and clamp.
  • Use the safety hood and stand clear during rotation.
  • Wait for a complete stop, isolate when required and report defects.

Important: This awareness course supports workplace instruction. It does not by itself authorise anyone to use a wheel balancer. Employers must provide machine-specific instruction, supervision and a practical competence check.
