Oxy Fuels and Gas Equipment (Haulage)

This course explains how to recognise and control the main hazards from portable oxy-fuel gas equipment used for welding, cutting, heating and related work in haulage workshops and vehicle-maintenance settings.

What you will cover

• Scope, responsibilities, competence and the main hazards
• Hot-work planning, permits and vehicle-specific precautions
• Cylinders, gases, regulators, hoses and pre-use checks
• Safe setting up, leak testing, purging, lighting and shutdown
• Fire and explosion prevention around tanks, drums, wheels and tyres
• Gas leaks, backfires, flashbacks and acetylene emergencies
• Fume control, ventilation, RPE and protective equipment
• Cylinder storage, handling, transport and final checks

Course structure

Complete eight lessons followed by a separate course-level 12-question final assessment. The pass mark is 80% (at least 10 correct), and retakes are permitted.

Scope boundary: this is awareness and knowledge training. It does not qualify a learner to assemble, alter, maintain or operate oxy-fuel equipment without equipment-specific practical instruction, supervised assessment, site procedures and written employer authorisation. Manufacturer and gas-supplier instructions always apply.
