This safety-awareness course explains how authorised recovery personnel plan, assess and control the collection or delivery of a vehicle using a recovery vehicle at roadsides, car parks, customer premises and other working locations.

What you will cover

  • Scope, responsibilities and stop-work authority.
  • Job information, vehicle suitability and pre-use checks.
  • Dynamic risk assessment on approach and arrival.
  • Safe recovery-vehicle positioning and work-area control.
  • Managing occupants, customers, pedestrians and other road users.
  • Safe loading and unloading boundaries, including winching and securing hazards.
  • Transport, delivery and controlled handover.
  • Live lanes, damaged vehicles, electric and alternative-fuel vehicles, leaks and adverse conditions.

Course structure

Complete eight lessons followed by a course-level 12-question final assessment. The pass mark is 80% (at least 10 correct), and retakes are permitted.

Scope boundary: this course supports awareness. It does not teach practical recovery techniques, prove competence or authorise anyone to operate recovery equipment. Vehicle- and equipment-specific instruction, supervised practice, an observed assessment and employer authorisation remain essential.
