Battery charging is routine, but a wrong charger, poor connection, damaged battery or spark in the wrong place can cause burns, electric shock, fire or explosion.
This straight-talking course shows workshop staff how to identify the job, prepare the vehicle and charging area, make and remove connections without creating a spark, monitor charging and respond to leaks, overheating, swelling, gas, damage or other abnormal conditions.
What you will learn
- Recognise the main electrical, chemical, fire, explosion and handling hazards.
- Check whether the battery, vehicle, charger and charging area are suitable.
- Use the correct sequence for connection, charging, monitoring and disconnection.
- Know when to stop, isolate the equipment and report a problem.
- Understand why workplace-specific instruction and practical authorisation are still required.
Important: This awareness course covers ordinary low-voltage automotive starter and auxiliary batteries. It does not authorise work on high-voltage EV traction batteries, damaged lithium-ion batteries, industrial battery rooms or battery repair.
