Engine Crane, Folding Crane and Engine Stands – Safety Awareness

This safety-awareness course explains how authorised workshop technicians and supervisors plan and control lifting, transferring, mounting and returning engines using engine cranes, folding cranes, lifting accessories and compatible engine stands.

What you will cover

• Equipment scope, responsibilities and stop-work authority.
• Lift planning and vehicle preparation.
• Crane selection, positioning and configuration.
• Pre-use checks, inspection and thorough examination.
• Lifting points, accessories and load balance.
• Controlled lifting, lowering and suspended-load exclusion.
• Transfer to an engine stand, secure mounting, rotation and movement.
• Completion, folding, storage, emergency response and reporting.

Course structure

Complete eight lessons followed by a course-level 12-question final assessment. The pass mark is 80% (at least 10 correct), and retakes are permitted.

Scope boundary: this course provides awareness only. It does not authorise lifting operations, vehicle isolation, attachment selection, engine mounting, equipment examination or practical crane and stand use. A competent lift plan, manufacturer instruction, supervised practice, practical assessment and written employer authorisation remain essential.
