Vehicle technician using a wheel lifter to refit a car wheel safely in a professional workshop

A wheel change can look routine. That is exactly why corners get cut. The job combines a raised vehicle, a heavy and awkward wheel, powerful equipment and a tyre holding stored air pressure.

This concise course gives vehicle technicians, tyre fitters, apprentices and workshop supervisors the practical safety decisions they need to remember: stabilise the vehicle, control the wheel, fully deflate before bead breaking, inflate from a safe position and finish with the correct calibrated torque.

You will learn how to prepare the bay and equipment, remove and handle a wheel safely, control tyre-changing and inflation hazards, recognise damage and stop when the work is outside scope.

Important: This is awareness training. It does not by itself prove practical competence or authorise tyre and wheel work. Current vehicle, tyre, wheel and equipment instructions, workplace risk assessments, safe systems of work, equipment-specific familiarisation, practical assessment and written employer authorisation still apply.

This course covers ordinary passenger-car and specifically approved light-vehicle single-piece wheel assemblies. It does not cover split or multi-piece wheels, truck, bus, agricultural, earthmoving or other specialist tyres, roadside work, wheel repair, hot work or unfamiliar high-pressure applications.

Approximately 30 minutes. Includes five lessons, a 10-question assessment and a Certificate of Completion. Recommended refresher: every 12 months, or sooner after an incident, near miss, unsafe observation, long non-use, competence concern, or a change to equipment, instructions or process.
