This practical awareness course explains how to use low-lift manual pallet trucks more safely by controlling the equipment, pallet, load, route, people and physical effort before movement begins.
What you will cover
- Equipment scope, limits and legal duties.
- Crushing, trapping, load, pedestrian and musculoskeletal risks.
- Pre-use checks and defect control.
- Pallet condition, load stability and rated capacity.
- Route planning, visibility, gradients and loading areas.
- Safe starting, steering, stopping, set-down and parking.
- Reporting, practical competence and employer authorisation.
Course structure
Complete eight lessons followed by a course-level 12-question final assessment. The pass mark is 80% (at least 10 correct), and retakes are permitted.
Scope boundary: this course covers low-lift hand-operated pallet trucks. It does not cover powered, ride-on, high-lift or specialist equipment, and completion does not itself prove practical competence or authorisation.
